TEACHING:

I have extensive experience in nursing education and have practiced in a variety of healthcare settings. I maintain certification as a Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) with privileges in the Sentara Health System. I teach a management course in the FNP program where my interest is in the care of patients with complex chronic diseases, particularly diabetes. Additionally, I have interest and teach courses in health promotion, disease prevention, epidemiology and population health.

RESEARCH:

As a Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) professional, my area of foci is systems change for quality improvement, the role of nursing in primary care, and the care of patients with diabetes. I have presented nationally on these topics.

SERVICE:

I am a member of the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (AANP), Virginia Council of Nurse Practitioners (VCNP), and the American Nurses Association (ANA).  In my role as Program Director, I serve as an ex officio member of the Master’s Curriculum Committee. I am a member of the Advisory Board for the Interprofessional Concentration Coordinator Certification program and I serve on the Nurse Practitioner Fellowship Advisory Board for VCU Health. Additionally, I am a Consulting Associate Professor for Duke University’s Population Care Coordinator Program.
