Welcome from the Dean

Welcome to the VCU School of Nursing! — a school with a distinguished tradition as a national leader in nursing education for more than 130 years.

Our rich history informs our present and inspires our future.

Here you will find a fascinating, diverse community built of scholars and researchers exploring science and practices for improving healthcare; instructors who are caring and supportive; and student nurses who are honing their skills in classrooms, labs, clinical settings, our Richmond community…and in the world outside Virginia.

It is so rewarding for all of us in the School of Nursing community to see that what we are passionate about—research, education and patient care—puts our school consistently among the top-ranked nursing schools in the country for the quality of our academic programs.

One size doesn’t fit all: we’re here to meet students and take them where they want to go. That’s why the School of Nursing offers 17 degree and certificate programs, to equip our students with the latest evidence-based nursing knowledge they need to pursue their professional goals. Our students learn from nationally-renowned faculty who are experts in clinical nursing and in the research of health conditions that affect varied populations.

We are very intentional in ensuring that diversity, equity and inclusion are threaded throughout our organization, from the curriculum and clinical learning to our day-to-day operations. The School of Nursing is an important part of Richmond, and in turn, our Richmond community shapes our nursing research and education. We are committed to addressing health disparities in the community through our nationally-recognized Mobile Health and Wellness Program, as well as other outreach activities.

We truly are a destination for those committed to transforming healthcare!
