The VCU School of Nursing appreciates that when it comes to advancing your education, time is money. To help you save some of both, the School of Nursing offers dual pathways combining post-professional certification with a DNP degree.
Among the many benefits offered by participation in the dual program, graduates are eligible to be dually certified in two population foci, increasing their breadth of practice and employment opportunities.
Students are eligible to take the nurse practitioner certification exam at the conclusion of their clinical rotations, two semesters prior to graduation, and be awarded the PPC. At the completion of the program, graduates will also be awarded a doctoral degree.
The DNP/PPC dual program is offered hybrid with approximately 50% of instruction online and 50% delivered in-person.
Family Nurse Practitioner
Advanced study in Family Nurse Practitioner Post-Professional Certificate (PPC) and Post-M.S. Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) is available through a dual pathway.
The dual Family Nurse Practitioner PPC and Post-M.S. DNP program allows students to earn a post professional certificate and a doctorate with a minimum of 51 credits rather than the 60 credits necessary if the two plans of study were pursued separately. This efficiency lowers the overall cost of tuition while also reducing time to earning both degrees.
