March 4, 2025

Clinical research coordinator and doctoral student, Hannah Khan, was recently featured on an episode of the Virginia Hospital & Healthcare Association's Patients Come First podcast. In the episode, Khan shares the inspiration behind her journey into nursing, how a chance email led her to pursue an undergraduate research fellowship, her experience in bedside pediatric care, and her current role as a research coordinator for a study exploring the relationship between mobility and brain health.
Khan also discusses her work on a current study that uses the Real-Life Activity and Life-Space Mobility Monitoring Solution (RAMS) technology to assess the relationship between cognitive function and physical mobility. She describes the the critical role community-engaged research plays in this work. “I am really hopeful that once this study is done, we will find a pattern between brain health or memory and movement," she said. "The significance of that relationship would impact people’s care from here on out, allowing clinicians to assess their patients’ physical health and movement in a way that is different from how we approach it now.”
Throughout the conversation, Khan reflects on the transformative impact of research in addressing the complex needs of dementia patients and highlights the potential of evidence-based care to improve patient outcomes moving forward.
