Research/Scholarship Interests
Shockey's primary focus of scholarly activities has been the examination of pre-procedural distress in children with cancer and the incorporation of biofeedback and relaxation strategies. This aligns well with her current clinical practice in pediatric oncology. Newer areas of interest include change management and quality initiatives through collaboration with VCU Health.
Area of Current Clinical Practice
Shockey is active in clinical practice through her position as a pediatric nurse practitioner at the Children's Hospital of Richmond with the Division of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology.
Teaching
Shockey teaches primarily in the graduate program. She serves as the course coordinator for the DNP residency experience. In her work as a pediatric nurse practitioner, she serves as a preceptor to students.

Professional Service
Shockey is an active member of NAPNAP and has served at the state level as chapter president and at the national level as integrative health SIG chair. Additionally, Shockey has been a member of APHON and regularly served as a reviewer for publications and presentations.
