Research/Scholarship Interests
My research aims to maximize wellness in individuals, families, and communities by improving communication and management of genomic and family health history information in families with heritable cardiovascular diseases. The premise of my research is that genetic and social connections in families are key mechanisms for improving health. Family communication is one of the most critical and often, the only ways, that at-risk family members may be alerted to the need to receive evaluation and preventive management for heritable cardiovascular diseases. Yet, family communication of genetic and health information is a challenge that persists across multiple chronic conditions and throughout the lifespan. This line of research is ripe for innovative solutions!
Teaching
I am committed to teaching and mentoring undergraduate and graduate students. My values as a teacher are 1) fostering enthusiasm to grow and learn; 2) commitment to creating an inclusive learning environment based on trust, honesty, and integrity; and 3) compassion for students in all career stages.
