Research/Scholarship Interests
My scholarship interests include the implementation of competency validation models in inpatient nursing units, bridging the gap between education and practice for novice nurses using simulation as a teaching tool, using transformational leadership practices in the microsystem to create healthier work environments and supporting acute care nurses in a COVID-19 pandemic environment. Additionally, I am interested specifically in Heart Failure patients and enhancing quality of life post-discharge through targeted teaching tools.
Teaching
I teach in the undergraduate curriculum with a focus on the clinical environment in adult health courses. My primary focus is in the Clinical Learning Center to support best practices in simulation. Previously, I have coordinated and developed education for frontline staff in a variety of clinical settings (oncology, neurology, interventional cardiology, general surgery, and arrhythmia care units). In addition, I have experience in community and public health teaching infectious disease epidemiology and outbreak response management at a local and state level.
Professional Service
I am an active member of the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses (AACN) and the Sigma Theta Tau International Nursing Society Beta Kappa Chapter at the University of Virginia.
