Research/Scholarship Interests
Jones’ program of research focuses on improving the nursing work environment and the quality and safety of nursing care in acute care hospitals. She is currently exploring relationships among measures of nursing work time quality and patient outcomes. Novel measures of work time quality in development include Dimensions of Nursing Work Time, Perceived Implicit Rationing of Nursing Care (PIRNCA), Perceived Time Pressure, and Nursing Intentions Regarding Prioritization and Spending Time with Patients. Jones’ work on unfinished nursing care in acute care hospitals is recognized internationally and is cited on the Agency for Healthcare Quality and Research (AHRQ) web page. She serves on the steering committee for the International Network for the Study of Rationalisation of Nursing Care and collaborates with international nursing colleagues to advance the science of unfinished care.
Area of Current Clinical Practice
Jones has been a nurse for more than 30 years and has served in a variety of practice roles ranging from critical care staff nurse to chief nurse executive in a large academic medical center and public hospital. Her primary clinical practice interests are in the areas of health care leadership and administration.
Teaching
Jones teaches graduate courses focusing on various aspects of leadership, management, quality and safety, and health services research.

Professional Service
Jones serves as the program director for graduate practice programs and the concentration lead for the nursing leadership and organizational science concentration in the master's program. She is a member of several professional nursing organizations to include the Academy of Medical Surgical Nursing, the American Nurses Association, Sigma Theta Tau International, National Organization for Nurses on Boards, and is a reviewer for several research journals. Jones currently serves as chair of the subcommittee responsible for implementing the new level 2 competencies and is a fellow in the American Academy of Nursing.
